ACCOR HOTEL
HOTEL, AMSTERDAM
The Amsterdam Accor hotel consists of a series of quaint little houses. Charming, stunning and…challenging. Especially if you need to tune into the Accor global concept for clients’ needs and also to keep a close eye on the costs.
Ideas started to flow when we decided that the Dutch painter Jan Steen would be our inspiration. We painted the majority of the walls in a neutral white colour and embellished them with fake classic profiles and little painted frames. Then we recycled and spray painted all the chairs and fridges in a high gloss black. Then we laid black and white carpet tiles on the floor and gave every room its own pièce de résistance: a large Jan Steen headboard. Finally, all the bathrooms were fully renovated (as the last renovation had taken place over 50 years ago). The result? The hotel mixes a classical modern day look with luxury and comfort. The rooms may be slightly out of step with the regular Accor formula but are totally in tune with Amsterdam. And more importantly, they attract masses of tourists.
